What is a Doula?

The word comes from the ancient Greek word meaning “a woman who serves”.  In modern day terms it describes one who is trained and experienced in childbirth; one who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth, or one who provides physical, emotional and practical support and help during the postpartum period.

Studies continually support evidence that shows when doulas attend births, labors are generally shorter with fewer complications, the babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
